PE and Sports Premium Funding
The Primary PE and Sports Premium is a government initiative designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the physical education, school sport and physical activity opportunities for all children. The funding is allocated to schools based on the number of pupils in Years 1–6. At Purbrook Junior School, we are fortunate to receive the premium for pupils in Years 3–6.
The purpose of the PE and Sport Premium is to make additional and sustainable improvements to the PE and sport provision we offer. Schools must use the funding to build capacity and capability within the school so that improvements will benefit pupils now and in future years.
How the funding can be used
In line with Hampshire County Council’s expectations and national guidance, schools can use the Sports Premium to:
-
Hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside class teachers.
-
Provide staff with high-quality professional development, resources and training to improve the teaching of PE and sport.
-
Support and involve the least active children by expanding or introducing extracurricular opportunities.
-
Increase participation in competitive sport through inter-house events, local competitions and the School Games.
-
Improve the range and quality of sports and physical activities offered within the curriculum and beyond.
-
Work collaboratively with other schools to share expertise, access festivals and broaden competitive experiences.
Our commitment
At Purbrook Junior School, we are dedicated to ensuring that the PE and Sport Premium has a positive, sustainable impact on pupils’ physical development, health, wellbeing and enjoyment of physical activity. Each year we evaluate the effectiveness of our provision, identify priority areas for development and consider how best to use the funding to make improvements that will benefit all pupils.
