Historically, Purbrook have had very strong football teams, entering many tournaments and the local league. Football is played throughout the autumn and spring terms on the large school field.
Following trials, teams are selected to compete in the Hampshire Cup from September and the local leagues. The H&W Schools League runs on three levels, gold, silver and bronze, to encourage maximum participation so we enter 3 teams for both Year 5 & Year 6. The leagues are aimed at years 5 & 6 but younger children may trial if invited.
HAMPSHIRE CUP FOOTBALL
Every year we enter both a girls’ and a boys’ team into the Hampshire Cup. Matches start early in the Autumn 1 Term and are played against schools from within the Hampshire County Council area. Purbrook boys held the Cup for 2018 & 2019! Unfortunately, our boys team were knocked out of the cup this year by Velmead School; the girls are waiting for drier weather to play their next round match.
The Year 6 Havant & Waterlooville League starts in September, followed by the Year 5 league after Christmas and finally the Girls’ league early in the Summer. We also enter Tournaments arranged for children that are keen but that did not make the school teams.
We are pleased to announce that new kits have once again been sponsored this year, this time by McCarthy & Stone. Last year we received new kit from the School Premier League Stars and Freedom School Holidays. Thank you to all our sponsors.
Football training and match supervision is taken by Mr Baines for the boys and Mr Kennett for the girls (Sports 4 Primary). For further details, please see Mrs Kennett at the school office.
